My main job is to maintain and troubleshoot all the signal equipment for my territory. I monitor and maintain the electric switches on the train tracks to keep the equipment running, reduce routine maintenance time, simplify operations, and maintain public safety.

Fluke Connect is an intelligent and quick way for us to coordinate our efforts. It is a wireless tool that works with our smart phones, through a software service allowing us to collaborate, communicate, visualize, and share information, capture key data, track trends, and remotely troubleshoot equipment.

With Fluke Connect it takes two of us just two weeks to perform quarterly checks on almost 30 pieces of equipment. Job safety is easily tripled because I spend two-thirds less time in proximity to high voltages. And once I install the meter I can get out of the way of moving trains rather than having to wave them through while taking critical measurements.

I oversee several Electrical/Mechanical Technicians in water districts across the state. We need to document our measurements in the CMMS system, which requires writing down the measurements in the field and typing them into the system. That’s time consuming and creates the opportunity for mistakes.

With the Fluke Connect system we can automatically record, organize and upload measurements in the field without carrying a clipboard or notebook. We can analyze the results-even multi-parameter tests-onsite on our smart phones. Then we can graph the measurements data vs. time to assess whether the measurement variations may lead to a malfunction or are merely due to environmental issues inside or outside the facilities. Best of all, I can see measurements from any of my technicians in real-time on my smart phone and quickly provide extra guidance where necessary.

My job is to ensure that our waste water treatment plant facility runs at peak efficiency 24/7. That requires constant routine and reactive maintenance, and my team needs to have good troubleshooting tools, baseline historical data, and up-to-date equipment records so they can find and resolve problems on the spot.

Our plant is expanding so we need to baseline new equipment as it goes in. The Fluke Connect system will help us accomplish all of that. We can use the modules to log a run at normal and max load and use up to six Fluke Connect modules to estimate reactive power from volts x amps. All the results are right there on our smart phones and we can add notes to the measurements. Multiple members of the team can share measurement information and collaborate on a solution from opposite ends of the plant, which can cut a lot of time from problem to solution.

I maintain R&D facilities and equipment and work with scientists to develop new processes. Fluke Connect is helping us address two major challenges.

First, we often want to log measurements from energized loads to identify problems, but have been limited by safety concerns. We can set up the Fluke Connect modules at the load and then move a safe distance away or even out of the building and view the results on a smart phone.

Second, our facility management was outsourced during the economic downturn and we have only a skeleton in-house troubleshooting staff. To better predict potential problems, our in-house staff has been running longitudinal studies. With Fluke Connect we can compare real time data from multiple FC modules (and video) to our data archived in the cloud to get a comprehensive view of our system health.
